Gyeonggi
Province, awarded the Prime Minister's Citation at the '2024 Medical Korea Global Healthcare Merit
Award'
Gyeonggi
Province has been awarded the Prime Minister's Citation
for its contribution to the development of the global healthcare industry in
Korea.
On March 14-15,
2024, at the opening ceremony of the international conference 'Medical Korea
2024' hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health
Industry Development Institute, a total of 22 government commendations were
awarded to individuals and organizations that have contributed to the
development of medical overseas expansion and attracting foreign patients.
At Medical Korea 2024, Gyeonggi Province received the Prime Minister's Citation,
achieving the honor of being the only local government to win an
award this year. In particular, in addition to Gyeonggi
Province, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and Soonchunhyang
University Hospital Bucheon received the
Presidential Commendation and the Prime Minister's Citation, respectively, highlighting the active
role of medical institutions in Gyeonggi
Province.
Gyeonggi
Province initiated international medical business in 2009 for the first time
among local governments nationwide. Since then, it has established health and
medical cooperation relationships with 27 overseas local governments worldwide,
produced 826 medical professionals from 10 countries through overseas medical
training, co-hosted 22 international medical conferences, conducted 54 overseas
medical missions, and performed 18 free surgeries, achieving a cumulative total
of 450,000 foreign patients attracted to Korea, contributing significantly to
the global healthcare development of Korea.
Furthermore,
Gyeonggi Province's international medical business has flexibly and steadily
grown over the past 15 years amidst rapidly changing global dynamics,
establishing and operating local Gyeonggi Global Medical Business Center (GMBC) in Russia, Kazakhstan, and the United States
(2011-2017), operating Gyeonggi Medical Tour Centers for foreign tourists visiting
Korea (2015-2017), and conducting global marketing activities such as
developing Medical Gyeonggi
branded content and promoting overseas online through social media
(2018~).
This is a
remarkable achievement led by a metropolitan local autonomous body among the 17
provinces nationwide, and Gyeonggi Province will continue to make its best
efforts to promote Medical Korea globally through ongoing efforts and
collaboration with central agencies in the future.
