-Gyeonggi Province-Vietnam healthcare cooperation spanning 13 years expands into the healthcare industry
-Expanded medical device exports and cooperation with Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, healthcare institutions, and companies expected to strengthen the foundation for Gyeonggi Province-based healthcare companies to enter the Vietnamese market

Gyeonggi Province announced that it successfully concluded the “2026 Gyeonggi MedTech Academy,” held from August 11 to 14.
The event was attended by 13 representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, public and private medical institutions, and medical device companies, who visited medical institutions and healthcare industry companies in Gyeonggi Province and discussed ways to cooperate in the healthcare industry.
Vietnam is seeing growing demand for medical devices and pharmaceuticals amid rapid industrialization, an aging population, and rising household incomes, while its healthcare system is also being rapidly upgraded in line with changes in national health policies. In particular, Vietnam is considered a promising market for Gyeonggi Province-based healthcare companies seeking to expand overseas, thanks to the high level of trust in Korean medical products and healthcare services.
Vietnam is also a long-standing healthcare cooperation partner of Gyeonggi Province. Since establishing healthcare cooperation with Hanoi City in 2013 and Ho Chi Minh City in 2018, Gyeonggi Province has continued to facilitate training programs for medical professionals and exchanges between medical institutions.
Building on this trusted relationship, Gyeonggi Province is expanding its exchanges, which have traditionally focused on training medical professionals, into the healthcare industry. The MedTech Academy was also organized to invite Vietnamese government officials, healthcare institutions, and medical device company representatives to Gyeonggi Province, showcase the competitiveness of the province’s healthcare industry, and support Gyeonggi Province-based healthcare companies in entering Vietnam and other emerging markets in Southeast Asia.
In particular, because medical devices are directly linked to patient diagnosis, treatment, and safety, the experience and preferences of healthcare professionals who actually use these products play an important role in their adoption.
Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province structured the program around visits to medical institutions and companies, allowing the Vietnamese participants to see and experience firsthand the actual environments in which medical devices are used and their real-world applications.
The delegation held an official meeting with Gyeonggi Province’s Health Bureau at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office, where they discussed cooperation in the medical device industry, training for healthcare professionals, and ways to expand exchanges between medical institutions. They then visited Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and Ajou University Hospital to learn about innovative Korean healthcare practices, including smart hospital operations and research-oriented hospital models.
The delegation also visited four Gyeonggi Province-based healthcare companies to examine their medical device production facilities and R&D capabilities, as well as participate in product demonstrations and consultations. At the Korean Medical Device Training Center, they experienced the training system for healthcare professionals and real-world applications of medical devices, and explored opportunities for future cooperation in medical device education and training for healthcare professionals.
Approximately 50 representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, healthcare institutions, and medical device companies, as well as Gyeonggi Province-based medical institutions and healthcare companies, attended the “2026 MedTech Gyeonggi Business Forum” held during the event.
The forum featured presentations on Vietnam’s medical device approval and licensing system and market conditions, as well as Gyeonggi Province’s healthcare industry policies, followed by product presentations by Gyeonggi Province-based companies and one-on-one business meetings.
In particular, consultations between Gyeonggi Province-based companies and Vietnamese healthcare institutions and distributors explored opportunities for cooperation in various areas, including medical device supply, local distribution, joint research, and training for healthcare professionals.
Gyeonggi Province plans to use the event as an opportunity to support follow-up cooperation between Gyeonggi Province-based healthcare companies and Vietnamese medical institutions and businesses, while expanding its longstanding healthcare exchanges into the healthcare industry and exports.
Yoo Yeong-cheol, Director General for the Health Bureau, said, “Gyeonggi Province and Vietnam have built a relationship of trust over many years through training for healthcare professionals and exchanges between medical institutions.” He added, “Building on this MedTech Academy, we will expand our cooperation into the healthcare industry and actively support healthcare companies in Gyeonggi Province in entering overseas markets, including Vietnam.”
