Treatment to Full Reconstruction: Myongji Hospital Launches Reconstructive
Surgery Center
On June 2, Myongji Hospital officially
opened its Reconstructive Surgery Center, ushering in a new era of
comprehensive reconstructive treatment that spans from cancer and trauma
surgeries to full physical restoration.
The Center focuses on specialized care
aimed at improving patients’ quality of life, offering a wide range of
reconstructive procedures including breast and head-and-neck reconstruction,
limb reconstruction, facial trauma, pressure sore treatment, and scar revision.
It operates under a multidisciplinary
care model, working closely with the Breast Center, Cancer Integrated Healing
Center, and Robotic Surgery Center. This collaboration enables a seamless,
one-stop care system, from pre-surgical planning to post-operative
reconstruction, delivering more systematic and intensive treatment with
personalized patient care.
Breast reconstruction at the Center
covers not only post-mastectomy procedures but also repairs for damage caused
by trauma, infections, and congenital conditions like Poland syndrome.
Minimally invasive surgery using the Da Vinci Xi robotic system allows for
smaller incisions and highly precise reconstructions.
Head and neck reconstruction addresses
tissue loss following surgeries for oral, laryngeal, and sinus cancers, as well
as facial and neck damage due to trauma or infection. Through microsurgical
tissue transplantation, the Center aims to restore both appearance and
function. It plans to maximize treatment effectiveness through close
cooperation with departments such as ENT, neurosurgery, hematology-oncology,
and radiology.
Following the opening ceremony, a
symposium was held at the Nongcheon Hall of the hospital to share the latest
developments in reconstructive surgery. Presentations included “Personal Tips
in Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction” by Dr. Jeon Byung-joon from Samsung
Medical Center and “An Overview of Head and Neck Reconstruction” by Dr. Ahn Hee-chang
from Bundang CHA Hospital.
Dr. Choi Jae-min, Director of the Center
and a plastic surgeon, stated, “Healing doesn’t end with the removal of
disease; it’s about helping patients return fully to their daily lives. Our
center is dedicated to restoring both function and appearance to rebuild
lives.”
Chairman Lee Wang-jun added in his
congratulatory remarks, “Reconstructive surgery represents both the expansion
and the pinnacle of surgical capability. With the opening of this Center,
Myongji Hospital has completed a comprehensive surgical care system that covers
the entire area of surgery. As the only dedicated reconstructive center in
northern Gyeonggi Province, we hope it will generate synergy through
collaboration with other surgical departments and drive future growth.”
