Dongtan City Hospital Builds a Smart Healthcare Environment with an AI-Based Medical System
2026.06.10
Dongtan City Hospital, an educational
affiliate of Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong, is working to establish
a digital healthcare-based medical environment by building Korea's first AI
Radiology Center and AI Smart Ward. By combining specialized treatment in the
fields of spine and joints with AI-based health screening and diagnostic imaging
systems, the hospital provides integrated medical services ranging from health
checkups and diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation.
The AI Radiology Center established in the
new wing of Dongtan City Hospital operates with a focus on an AI-based diagnostic
imaging environment. The center is equipped with imaging devices, including a
3.0T MRI, CT, and ultrasound systems incorporating GE HealthCare’s AI
deep-learning technology, and operates a medical system that links health
screenings with clinical care.
In recognition of its technological
capabilities and operational expertise, Dongtan City Hospital has been
designated as the official reference site for the AKA (Asia, Korea &
Australia) region by global medical device company GE HealthCare. As a result,
healthcare professionals from Korea, ASEAN countries, Australia, New Zealand,
and other overseas institutions visit the hospital to observe its AI-based
healthcare environment and examples of clinical operations.
Dongtan
City Hospital also became the first hospital in Hwaseong Special City to
introduce an AI Smart Ward. The hospital has implemented and operates the
wearable-based smart patient monitoring system, “thynC,” across all 180
inpatient beds. The system enables real-time monitoring of patients’ key vital
signs and is utilized to enhance patient safety management and improve the
efficiency of medical staff.
In addition to its AI-based medical system,
Dongtan City Hospital also possesses expertise in the fields of spine and joint
care. Honorary Director Kim Ki Tack is dedicated to treating a wide range of
spinal disorders, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spinal
deformities, and ankylosing spondylitis. Based on his research and clinical
experience in the field of spine care, he has performed more than 9,000 highly
complex spinal surgeries as of 2025. Hospital Director Shin Jae Hung also
provides treatment grounded in continuous research and clinical experience in
minimally invasive spinal endoscopic surgery and has performed more than 4,500
spinal endoscopic surgeries as of 2026.
Dongtan City Hospital completed the renewal
of its registration as a foreign patient attraction institution designated by
the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2025 and continues to promote the
establishment of a global medical service environment. Through these efforts,
overseas patients are also supported in receiving more convenient and
systematic medical services, from health screenings and diagnosis to treatment
and rehabilitation.
Kim Mi Yeong, Administrative Director,
said, “Dongtan City Hospital is building a digital healthcare-based medical
environment through the operation of its AI Radiology Center and Smart Ward. We
will continue striving to provide medical services trusted by both domestic and
international patients, together with specialized care in the fields of spine
and joints.”
