The Indian poet, Tagore, described the Joseon Dynasty as the 'Nation of morning calm', that is where the name, 'the Garden of Morning Calm,' came from. It was established in 1996 by Samyook University's horticulture professor, Sanggyeong Han, in order to create a Korean garden that expresses the nation's life, joys and sorrows. It is located in the vicinity of Chungnyeong Mountain in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. There are total of 20 beautiful gardens in the area of 100,000 pyeong. In order to look around various theme gardens, such as Old Home Garden, Herb Garden, Sharon Garden, Eden Garden, Pond Garden and Korean Garden, it takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. According to circumstances, it can only take 30 minutes, but visitors are likely to miss out beautiful sceneries. It may take a whole day, if they choose to relax in the water in the valley and spacious lawn and enjoy a meal in the restaurant with beautiful scenery. Also, in the Garden of Morning Calm, there is an experience education program (twice per day) for kindergarteners and elementary school students. It will be a good opportunity to observe nature and learn to raise plants.
